Each exercise in your personal homecare plan targets a specific issue in your spine and posture. By consistently performing these exercises, you’ll strengthen the muscles of your neck, back, and core, providing protection against the physical stresses of daily life. Just like wearing rubber bands while having braces, homecare that complements your chiropractic adjustments ensures the most effective results in the shortest time.
Progressive Rolls: During sleep, your nervous system accelerates healing and repair of damaged tissues. Progressive foam rolls ensure your spine is in the optimal position for your body to heal and restore itself.
Pelvic/Lumbar Wedge Set: Pelvic rotation can lead to subluxation and misalignment in the lumbar spine. The Triangular Pelvic Wedge Set is designed to facilitate easy and convenient spinal care at home by gently guiding your spine back into a proper and healthy position.
Inflatable Wobble Cushion: This is a fun and simple way to warm up and stretch your spine throughout the day.
Dual-Purpose Cervical Traction Unit: This is an essential component of any chiropractic home care routine. It’s simple and easy to use. In just a few minutes a day, it restores healthy cervical curvature by gently stretching the neck, creating space between the vertebrae.
Vertical Pull Adapter: The Vertical Pull Adapter attaches to the Dual-Purpose CTU, replacing the door stop. This allows for more ease of use and a wider range of motion when using the Dual-Purpose CTU at home. The Vertical Pull Adapter extends the distance between the door and the Dual-Purpose CTU by approximately 6 inches, mimicking the in-clinic setup.
How to Use
Progressive Rolls:
- Use the rolls on your bed.
- Place the prescribed roll in the appropriate position, usually in the middle of your neck and the middle of your lower back.
- Try to fall asleep on the rolls. If you can’t, stay on them for as long as you feel comfortable, then switch back to your pillow.
- Gradually increase your time in increments of 5 minutes until it becomes a nightly habit. This can take up to 6 months.
You can also use the rolls throughout the day for 10 to 20-minute periods. This is particularly beneficial after exercise or physical activity.
Progressive Roll Covers
- Simply slip the covers over the progressive rolls for enhanced comfort and durability. This 2-cover set increases the durability and comfort of using the Progressive Rolls.
- They are washable by hand or machine to keep the Progressive Rolls clean. We recommend air drying to prevent shrinkage.
Pelvic/Lumbar Wedges
- Place the appropriate wedge on your bed or the floor.
- Follow your MaxLiving doctor’s instructions to position the wedge correctly.
- Use the wedges for at least 20 minutes daily, or as frequently as recommended by your doctor.
- You can also use the wedges throughout the day for 10 to 20-minute periods. This is especially beneficial after exercise or physical activity.
- The wedges can be used in conjunction with Progressive Rolls.
Inflatable Wobble Cushion
- Place your Inflatable Wobble Cushion on a firm surface chair and use it for stability exercises while seated.
- Perform the exercises prescribed by your doctor, which typically involve side-to-side, front-to-back, and rotational movements.
- While maintaining control, try to feel your spine moving through its full range of motion. Remember, this is an exercise, so it’s normal to feel your muscles working.
- Perform these exercises twice daily, or as instructed by your doctor (in most cases, they can be done more frequently).
- The Inflatable Wobble Cushion can be inflated or deflated using a sport ball needle. This adjustment can increase or decrease the range of motion.
Dual-Purpose Cervical Traction Unit
- Perform cervical warm-up, joint lubrication, and cartilage nourishment exercises by twisting, flexing, and extending your head and neck.
- Adjust the connection so that the curved piece hangs slightly lower than the back of your head.
- Pull the handles down until they stop at the curved neck piece, with the handles at shoulder height.
- Place the curved piece behind your neck and position the padded handle under your chin or on your forehead. Place one hand on each handle end, with your palms facing your face.
- Hold the handles firmly and relax your knees to support some of your body weight with the traction. The traction is controlled by bending your knees.
- Start with 10 repetitions and gradually increase to 60 repetitions per session.
- Incorporate deep diaphragmatic breathing while using the traction. Exhale completely and forcefully when you release the traction. If you experience any pain, ice your neck for 10 minutes.
Vertical Pull Adapter
- Place the Vertical Pull Adapter over the door and close it.
- Pull down on the lower loop of the door stop to ensure it’s securely fastened.
- Adjust the height so that the curved piece hangs slightly lower than the back of your head. Depending on your height, you may need to tie a knot in the rope to achieve the desired height for the Dual-Purpose Cervical Traction Unit.
- To adjust the height, remove the Dual-Purpose Cervical Traction Unit and Vertical Pull Adapter from the door. Then, loosen or tighten the strap on the Vertical Pull Adapter to increase or decrease the strap length as needed.
